Working together to conquer Lupus - 1 in 1000 persons in Canada have Lupus

A Proud Member Organization of Lupus Canada

The 2012 Adventure Destinations International 3rd Annual Lupus Golf Tournament was held on Friday, August 24. The day was sunny with cloudy periods, and a bit windy as 130 golfers registered at The Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon. After a good day on the course that included chipping rubber ducks into a dinghy, and 3 hole-in-ones, everyone returned to the clubhouse that had been beautifully decorated by Tammy Schmidt and helpers.

After an excellent dinner, Lupus SK President Lloyd Driedger, gave a description of lupus to the 142 attendees and explained some of the ways that Lupus SK uses the golf tournament proceeds. One of these is the purchase and mailing of the Lupus Medical Poster to all the physicians' offices in Saskatchewan. After dinner, Alayna Schmidt assisted in the drawing of tickets for the countless prizes displayed in our raffle. There were also over forty silent auction items which included a signed Messier Hockey Jersey and a signed Dressler Football Jersey. In total, the auction itself raised over $3,000.

An exciting addition to our tournament this year was the sponsorship from WestJet. They generously donated one round trip flight for two people to any scheduled WestJet destination. The prize was drawn later in the evening by Alayna Schmidt.

Of course, we would like to say thank you to our dedicated golf committee. Without the efforts of Ann van der Wal, April Edwards, Corey Edwards, Tammy Schmidt, Gerard Schmidt, Jodi Ranger, Tammy Hinds, Barry Stevenson, Jackie Earis, Irene Driedger, and Lloyd Driedger, this tournament would not have been such a success.

Thanks go out to Adventure Destinations International for returning as our "Title Sponsor", and also to the numerous companies and individuals throughout Saskatchewan who offered further prizes and sponsorships.

In total, the 2012 Golf Tournament raised a record profit of $25,038.17. These proceeds will go towards the ongoing effort to increase awareness, educate the public and support those affected by Lupus.
